Castelnau-de-Montmiral · one of France's most beautiful villages

Where to stay in Castelnau-de-Montmiral

Two addresses in 14th-century stone, at the foot of the Romanesque church, in the heart of a fully pedestrianised village.

The village

Castelnau-de-Montmiral, one of France's “Plus Beaux Villages”

Perched above the Vère valley, Castelnau-de-Montmiral is a bastide (fortified medieval town) founded in the 13th century and officially listed among the Plus Beaux Villages de France, the most beautiful villages in France. Its arcaded square, its church and its stone lanes are all explored on foot, and the whole village is pedestrianised.

It makes an excellent base: Cordes-sur-Ciel is 15 minutes away, the Gaillac vineyards 25, Albi 31 km, Toulouse an hour. Puycelsi, Bruniquel and the Grésigne state forest are all under 20 minutes away.

We have two addresses here, in the same stone building, at the foot of the Romanesque church.

Option 1

Casa Glèsia — the medieval loft, for 2 to 3 guests

A fully renovated 60 m² loft looking directly onto the church square. Exposed 14th-century stone, a carefully designed contemporary interior, premium bedding, a fully equipped kitchen, bed linen and towels provided, high-speed Wi-Fi.

It's self check-in, by keypad code: you arrive whenever you like, with no meeting time to arrange after a long drive.

A word of honesty, because the building is old: the stairs are rather steep. Better to know before you book.

Option 2

Casa Glèsia SPA — the wellness version, for 2

Same building, same medieval stone, but 80 m² — 60 m² of loft, plus 20 m² of spa and entrance area — and above all a dedicated room with a private indoor spa, yours to use as much as you like throughout your stay.

The spa is already hot when you arrive: nothing to switch on, nothing to wait for. That is the great advantage of an indoor spa in the Tarn — the room stays out of the sun during summer heatwaves, and the pool is a cocoon in winter, whereas an outdoor hot tub is only pleasant at certain hours.

The heating is controlled remotely by us: there is nothing for you to do, and if it's too warm or too cold, a message is all it takes.
