Tarn · Occitanie · a stay for two
Medieval bastide towns, an ancient vineyard, a UNESCO-listed city — and two addresses for two where you share nothing with anyone.
The idea
The Tarn has everything a romantic weekend needs: medieval bastides (fortified towns), a UNESCO-listed city, an ancient vineyard and, above all, far fewer people than Provence or the Périgord (Dordogne). People come here to slow down.
You still need to pick the right address, though. A “romantic getaway” that ends up in an adjoining property, with a shared pool and neighbours three metres away, is not what you came for. Our two addresses for two guests are built around a single rule: you share nothing.
Friday evening
At Lou Pitchoun, you arrive along the estate track, drop your bags in the cottage, and the evening happens outdoors: private hot tub under the covered terrace, a glass of Gaillac wine, clear skies. The estate covers 3 hectares — there is nobody else around.
At Casa Glèsia SPA, you park in the village and step into a 14th-century stone loft. The private indoor spa is ready; the view looks onto the Romanesque church. Outside, the lanes of Castelnau-de-Montmiral slowly fall quiet.
Saturday
The Gaillac wine route — one of the oldest vineyards in France. The wine estates can be visited without any complicated appointments, and Gaillac market is worth the trip on a Friday morning.
Cordes-sur-Ciel, about twenty minutes away: a hilltop medieval town, often voted the French public's favourite village. Go early in the morning, before the coaches.
Albi, about thirty minutes away: Sainte-Cécile cathedral and the Toulouse-Lautrec museum, both UNESCO-listed. A half day well spent.
Castelnau-de-Montmiral, Puycelsi, Bruniquel and the Grésigne forest: three bastides and a state forest, all within 20 minutes of one another.
All the details are on our Explore the Tarn page.

From Casa Glèsia SPA, yes: you are in the heart of Castelnau-de-Montmiral, the whole village is pedestrianised and the restaurants are two minutes away. From Lou Pitchoun, the estate is lovely to wander, but you need the car to go anywhere.
